On Aug. 10, 2020, Oscar Gonzalez began rehabilitation at Life Care Center of Las Vegas, Nevada, after experiencing medical complications and weakness secondary to COVID-19.

Before acquiring COVID-19, Oscar was completely independent and worked for an insurance company.

When Oscar arrived at Life Care, he needed total assistance with walking, bed mobility, transfers, wheelchair mobility, standing balance, bathing and dressing. He needed extensive assistance with sitting balance and some assistance with cognition and receptive language. He participated in physical, occupational and speech therapies.

Physical and occupational therapists worked with Oscar on therapeutic exercises, therapeutic activities and energy conservation training, as well as balance, strength and self-care training. He learned ways to compensate, including using assistive devices. Speech therapists tailored his therapy to complex home management and complex information, as well as attention to detail when multitasking.

On Oct. 7, Oscar completed his rehabilitation and returned home.

“I am so grateful for my therapy team,” Oscar shared. “Not only did they motivate me to do better, but they also made me feel comfortable and encouraged me to keep improving. They are kind, nice and excellent therapists. It was fun to work with them, and I can’t forget to mention they are very patient.”
